Color scheme

What girl wouldn’t think it’s cool to wake up in a room like this one day? Not too cheesy, not too plain and a room full of atmosphere. The color scheme is obvious at first glance: the dominant colors are pink, turquoise and black. Overall, there is a good mix of cool and warm, pink and turquoise accordingly. But that’s not the only contrast in this room.

Discreetly striking

On the left wall, there is a wallpaper with palm leaves that brings the tropical flair to the room. It’s a nice statement wall, because with a pattern like this, it’s enough to wallpaper one or two walls, otherwise the pattern will look way too busy really quickly, which is something we don’t want in the Teen Room.

A bit of austerity in the Teen Room

To counteract this natural atmosphere and give it more teen coolness, they decided to use industrial style furniture. It’s black metal frames with light wood floors and they give the room quite a bit of straightforwardness and cool sophistication. Now the idea is to soften this austerity again with textiles.

More is more

Textiles give the people in the room a sense of warmth and security. Here, the more varied the material surfaces, the better. Here in the Teen Room, the large pink curtains are a great textile element and they create a beautiful setting. They are made of sheer fabric and let the light through, making the room seem brighter and more open.

The seasoning of the final ingredients

The gray felt armchair matches the one gray ceiling lamp, which, by the way, is fittingly also in industrial look. The armchair provides a place to sit and relax next to the bed and the small black stool. The small stool has again a different textile surface and fits with its squiggly black and white pattern both to the black furniture and the round shape of the plants, wallpaper like real, and the round shape of the armchair and lamp. The cushion in the shape of a cactus again brings in the green and gives the Teen Room a playful touch. And as if you didn’t use enough textiles already, there is a fur rug on the floor. It goes very well with the gray armchair it sits next to.

The enlightenment

Another element of interior design, which is often not thought about in bright daylight, is the effect of light. Fairy lights and the light symbols bring a cozy atmosphere to the room in the evening and are very popular with teens. Strings of lights can be either hidden somewhere, often LED strips are used behind the headboard of the bed, or offensively visible as here. The black fairy lights on the bed and on the window fit well with the delicate frames of the furniture and combine well with them, as you can see well on the bed. It’s especially charming to have the string of lights hang vertically from the ceiling instead of horizontally as usual. This can also beautifully emphasize the height of a room.

Keep up appearances

When decorating the open shelf, boxes were used to make the room look tidy. Especially smart in this context: a textile box made of gray felt and a black wire box with an industrial look. These pick up the styles in the room again and show how beautifully you can combine two different styles.
