Cleaning out your closet can be a real overwhelm. We'll show you the most effective way to sort out and organize your clothes.

Closet cleaning made easy!

Cleaning up the closet is quite an unpleasant task for many. At the same time, it is very important to regularly sort out all unworn clothes and restore order to live and feel better at home. A big problem is that many people have no overview of how many items of clothing they actually own and always end up with the same clothes. Instead of shopping around, it can be very worthwhile to clean out your closet, discover forgotten treasures and make room for new things – minimalism as a lifestyle, so to speak. However, after a few days of cleaning up, the order in your closet is quickly destroyed again and you find it difficult to find the right clothes. We show you eight tips on how to sort out your clothes and organize your closet most effectively.

Clean out your closet – quickly and effectively to long-term order

TIP 1: USE MORE CLOTHES RAILS INSTEAD OF SHELVES

Clothes rails have many advantages over traditional shelving. Once hung on the hanger, clothes line up neatly and you have a better overview of all the clothes you own. With piles of clothes on shelves, the order is destroyed very quickly, because everyone knows the situation when you pull out the lowest sweater and the whole pile then half falls over. Clothes hung with hangers, on the other hand, can be easily taken out of the closet, have no folded edges and wrinkle less. With a pants storage system, you can also keep your jeans neatly organized and save yourself from having to clean out your closet on a regular basis.

TIP 2: SORT BY TYPE OF CLOTHING

When it’s time to sort out all the clothes you don’t wear or don’t fit, it’s best to be systematic from the start to be effective and not lose motivation. Instead of clearing all the clothes out of your closet and throwing them in a pile to sort through, you should categorically clean out according to the type of clothes. You’ll save yourself time and nerves if you go through the t-shirts, then the sweaters, and then the pants, one by one, discarding unwanted pieces at a time. This way, you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished something and made progress, and you’ll be more motivated to clean out your closet.

TIP 3: SORT OUT ACCORDING TO THE CATEGORIES: KEEP, MAYBE KEEP AND SELL/DONATE

When cleaning out your closet, you should decide on three different categories: clothes that will definitely stay in your closet, clothes that might be kept and clothes that will definitely go. Everything that has not been worn by you for a year or more should be sold or donated. The fewer items you own, the easier it is to keep your closet tidy and organized.

TIP 4: ASK YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR THEIR OPINION

If you find it very difficult to part with some clothes, ask your friends or even better your mother for advice. People who are close to you often know very well what suits you and what does not and can help you to clean out your closet and make the right decisions. Among other things, you may also find the first buyers for your sorted out clothes.

TIP 5: SORT YOUR CLOTHES BY SEASON

Sorting by winter and summer clothes is useful to get a better overview of your different clothes and to avoid long searches for the right top or pants in the morning. It’s best to put the clothes for the next season further up in the closet and only stock your clothes rails with things that also fit the current season.

TIP 6: USE UNIFORM HANGERS

Uniform hangers can give you even more closet space and won’t snag on each other when you take them out. In addition, hangers in a uniform shape and color give a neat image in the closet.

TIP 7: SORTING BY TYPE AND COLOR

Sorting by type and especially by color makes a big difference when cleaning up your closet. For the perfect overview, place all the clothes in the different categories next to each other and sort them by color within the type. For example, you hang all sweaters next to each other and sorted by color. This will make it easier for you to put together the outfit you want in the morning.

TIP 8: USE STORAGE BOXES FOR SMALL CLOTHES AND ACCESSORIES

In order to store smaller clothes such as tops and accessories neatly, storage boxes should not be missing when cleaning up your closet. Tops can also be sorted upright in the boxes to see at first glance what kind of selection you have.

STORAGE BOXES

Storage boxes help you to store smaller items of clothing and accessories optimally in your closet and make it easier for you to clean out your closet. On the one hand, you’ll find what you’re looking for easier and faster this way, on the other hand, storage boxes make a neat impression and help you keep the chaos under control.

DRAWER CONTAINER

A drawer container is great for making use of unused space underneath clothes rails. Simply placed at the bottom of the closet, accessories, jewelry or other accessories can be stored here within easy reach. This way, you create more storage space for small items that otherwise easily get lost in drawers.

HANGING ORGANIZER FOR SCARVES, TIES AND BELTS

With a hanging organizer, it’s possible to store even clothes that are difficult to hang with classic hangers in a space-saving way on clothes rails. The different bars offer space for scarves, ties and belts. Due to the subdivisions and the smooth material surface, the accessories will not be crumpled, your accessories are perfectly organized and you will have less effort during the next closet cleaning.

TROUSER HANGER SYSTEM

The trouser hanger system can be easily pulled out of the interior of the wardrobe on a pull-out rail. This way, it’s not only easy to sort in your pants, but you can also easily get an overview of the different options without destroying the order in your closet.
