What do you need an evening ritual for?
Imagine the following evening ritual: You’ve had a busy day, be it at school, college or work. And now you just want to go home, eat something in peace and quiet and go to sleep as soon as possible. No sooner said than done. So you lie in bed and check your messages on your smartphone one last time. Time passes and you fall asleep. But instead of jumping out of bed the next morning like Flipper and embracing the world, you pull the covers over your head and just want to go back to sleep. Does this situation sound familiar? Well, you can do something about that. With a relaxing evening ritual, you’ll not only feel like you’ve used the time before bed wisely and invested in your well-being. No, above all, you’ll sleep better. And that not only puts you in a good mood in the morning, but also gives you strength and energy for the whole day!
Tip 1: Schedule enough time for your evening ritual
Just like our tips for getting up, the same goes for your evening ritual: A relaxing evening ritual is not possible without enough scheduled time! How about a weekly planner? That way you always have everything at a glance! Because if you do your activities in such a way that you still have enough time in the evening for your evening ritual, you no longer have to rush in the evening to get to bed in time to get enough hours of sleep.
Tip 2: Scented candles for a relaxing atmosphere
Incorporate scented candles into your evening ritual. Not only do they have a calming effect on the senses, but they also spread a pleasant atmosphere. Not for nothing they are used more and more as a decorative item. Try your way through the most different variations. You’ll notice for yourself which scents will do your body and mind good! The following scents not only have a relaxing effect on your body, but are also helpful against sleep disorders, stress and anxiety, depressive moods and nervousness. Incorporate these aromas into your evening ritual:
- Lavender
- Rose
- Melissa
- Sandalwood
- Cedarwood
- Petitgrain
- Geranium
- Chamomile
- Rosemary
- Bergamot
- Orange
- Lemongrass
- Anise
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla
- Spruce needle
It’s best to resort to scented candles that have been made from a blend of different scents. Instead of candles, you can also use an aroma diffuser. Here you simply add a few drops of one or more aromatic oils to the water. This way you can customize the scent to your taste and create the perfect atmosphere for your evening ritual! If you like it natural, you can of course also use real plants in the bedroom.
Tip 3: Take a break and drink tea!
What’s an evening ritual without a leisurely sip of tea? Teas are not only healthy, but they also have a relaxing effect on the body. In the winter, you can cozy up in your cozy blanket or electric blanket. And even in summer you can resort to teas. Because the body no longer has to heat the drink to body temperature, less energy is used than when you drink cold drinks. In this way you avoid excessive sweating and your body can cool itself down through evaporative cooling (also interesting: humidity in the bedroom). Ideal teas for your evening ritual are e.g. chamomile, lavender, valerian, lemongrass and mint.
Tip 4 : Face masks to avoid stress pimples
Maybe you’ve experienced it a time or two when your skin seems to start taking on a life of its own and go completely haywire. When you suffer from stress, your hormonal balance gets confused and reacts with small or even sometimes painful and underground pimples. If this applies to you, just treat yourself to a face mask while you prepare for your evening ritual. Masks made of healing clay, clay or charcoal absorb excess oil without drying out your skin. They also have an antibacterial effect and a drying effect on individual pimples! Of course, you should use such a mask only 1-3 times a week or as needed. You can of course also apply a moisturizing mask, which also smells good. Add a good series and your relaxing evening ritual is complete!
Tip 5: Put your smartphone away! A book to round off your evening ritual
You should end your evening ritual with a relaxing activity, like reading! How many times have you wanted to read through that book your friend gave you and is now sitting untouched in the corner? Reading also prepares you perfectly for bedtime, as your body goes into rest mode and can’t allow any other thoughts. Your smartphone, on the other hand, virtually fills up your brain with information, which stimulates you to think. If social media are an enrichment for the day, you should be absolutely taboo for a perfect evening ritual! In fact, that should end with something soothing. So be so good (to yourself), put your phone on silent, turn on your alarm clock (or even better, your sleep phase alarm clock), put on your sleep mask if you have one, and get a restful sleep!
