How do pimples develop?
First of all, you should understand how blind pimples, pustules, blackheads and co. are formed. The skin performs many functions, including protection against environmental influences. It consists of the essential layers: Upper skin (epidermis), dermis and lower skin (subcutis). The epidermis constantly regenerates itself by forming new skin scales and shedding old ones. Due to excessive keratinization (hyperkeratosis) of the sebaceous follicles, which are located in the epidermis, blockage occurs and impurities such as subcutaneous pimples form. Underlays form in the deeper layers of the skin, which feel like lumps from the outside. As the skin cycle progresses, they appear more and more on the surface of the skin. We will now look at what causes blind pimples and how you can get rid of them!
What are blind pimples caused by?
Common causes
As explained in the section above, excessive keratinization of the skin scales leads to blind pimples, as the sebum can no longer drain away as usual. They often occur in conjunction with oily skin, but this does not necessarily have to be the case. People with dry skin can also be affected.
Bacteria
Another cause is bacteria, which inflame the sebaceous glands and thus clog them. Makeup and constant touching of the face transport these bacteria into the skin. Clogging the sebaceous glands is now a breeze and blind pimples are the result.
Hormones
Let’s please not forget about puberty, where most of us have already had experience with underlayment in the skin. Especially during this time, hormone levels fluctuate and increased testosterone causes excessive production of sebum. Women during their periods or pregnancy also complain of these nasty pimples that sit deep in the skin and here too, hormonal imbalances are present that cause these accompanying symptoms.
Unhealthy lifestyle
The wrong diet can cause blind pimples as well, such as increased consumption of fatty and sweet foods. Last but not least, stress also makes your hormones go haywire, which manifests itself in painful, deep-set pimples.
What can I do about it?
Tip #1: Don’t give bacteria a chance!
Avoid touching your face all the time, change your pillowcase often and disinfect your headphones and cell phone display regularly with alcohol. This will help you avoid blind pimples.
Tip No. 2: Facial cleansing is the be-all and end-all
Apply as much makeup as you want, but don’t forget to clean your face properly. A makeup remover wipe alone is definitely not enough here. Treat your face with an alcohol-free and mild wash gel and then with a toner. This way you are on the safe side and bacteria have no chance to cause blind pimples. Basically, a good facial cleansing brush also makes sense.
Tip No. 3: Protect your skin from moisture loss!
No matter how oily your skin may be, your skin still needs moisture! A light and quickly absorbed gel texture is perfectly sufficient here, but a properly applied face mask or a good cream is also not wrong. If you have a rather dry skin, you should use different layers like serums, ampoules etc.. These will moisturize your skin without clogging the sebaceous follicles and causing blind pimples.
Tip #4: Use the right treatments!
There are several products that can help your skin alleviate hyperkeratosis and prevent and remove blind pimples. Exfoliating products remove dead skin cells from the skin, allowing sebum to drain away. In this way, the pimple flattens from time to time. They also make the face glow and the skin feel softer as newly formed skin flakes to reveal. Be careful not to use peels with sharp grains. They only injure the skin unnecessarily and also make it easier for bacteria to penetrate. Incorporate chemical exfoliants into your body care routine, as they contain glycolic and salicylic acids, also known as AHAs and BHAs. However, don’t forget to protect your skin with a sunscreen, as it is especially sensitive after peels! Also, you can get rid of isolated sub-surface pimples with a spot treatment like tea tree oil without drying out the rest of your skin.
Tip #5: Avoid stress
Not only is it important to use the right products, but it’s just as important that you’re not constantly stressed! Why not treat yourself to a quiet and relaxing day at home once a week, where you pamper yourself from head to toe. A beauty evening won’t do you any harm either. On the contrary, it’s a great way to recover from a stressful week and recharge your batteries!
Don’t give blind pimples a chance
Blind pimples are annoying and painful in any case, and they simply disrupt the overall appearance on your face. However, you can get them under control with the tips listed above and with a lot of patience and regular use. Nevertheless, you should not be afraid to go to the doctor if things do get out of hand. In any case, I wish you much success!
